Largest and Smallest 10-Digit Number

What is Number System?

Number System is defined as a group of values that is used to illustrate a quantity. This quantity can be represented in any of the below number systems:

NameBase
Binary2
Octal8
Decimal10
Duodecimal12
Hexadecimal16

Out of the above-mentioned number systems, the decimal number system is the most popular and common, as we use it daily. If we want to weigh an object or count money, we use the decimal number system. The term base represents how many distinct digits each category of number system has. For example, base 10 in the decimal system means 10 different digits (from 0 to 9).

Digits and Numbers

Digits (0 to 9) are any characters or symbols used to identify a number. Digits can be used either in groups (like 43/ 26) or individually (like 2/4).

Numbers are nothing but digits/numerals. They can be represented either in the form of figures- called Notation or in the form of words- called Numeration.

Example for Notation: 23

Example for Numeration: twenty-three

10-digit number

  • A 10-digit number is a numeral that has ten digits and has a value anywhere between 1 to 9 in its first position.
  • In the International value system, the 10th place value is named a billion; in the Indian value system, the 10thplace value is named Arab.
  • Both the Indian Number System as well as the International Number System can be utilized to represent 10-digit numbers.
  • The very first comma in the Indian Number System is inserted after the first three numbers from the right, and subsequent commas are positioned after every other pair of digits.
  • The very first comma in the International Number System is placed after the first three numbers from the right, and successive commas are written after every subsequent set of three digits.

The largest 10-digit number is 9,99,99,99,999(represented in Indian Number System)

Reason:

  • The number that comes after 9,99,99,99,999 is 10,00,00,00,000.
  • This number is obtained when 1 is added to the number 9,99,99,99,999.
  • A 10-digit number, when added to one, becomes an 11-digit number.
  • Hence, we can saythe largest 10-digit number is 9,99,99,99,999.

Smallest 10-digit number

The smallest 10-digit number is 1,00,00,00,000(represented in Indian Number System)

Reason:

  • The number that comes before 1,00,00,00,000 is 99,99,99,999.
  • This number is obtained when 1,00,00,00,000is subtracted from 1.
  • When one is taken away from a ten-digit number, it becomes a nine-digit number that is 99,99,99,999.
  • Hence, 1,00,00,00,000 is the smallest 10-digit number.
