PHP strcspn() Function

The strcspn() function in PHP returns the number of characters (including whitespaces) found in a string before any part of the specified characters is found. It is a binary-safe function.

Syntax

strcspn ( string $subject , string $mask [, int $start [, int $length ]] )

Parameter

subject(required)- This parameter specifies the string to search.

mask(required)- This parameter represents the string containing every disallowed character.

start(optional)- This parameter represents the position in subject to start searching.

length(optional)- This parameter represents the length of the segment from subject to examine.

If length is positive, then the subject will be examined for length characters after the starting position else for negative length then subject will be examined from the starting position up to length characters from the end of subject.

Return

This function returns the length of the initial segment of subject, which consists entirely of characters not in the mask.
