What is Word Processor

A word processor (WP) is a software application used to create, edit and download e-documents. The word processing tools are more famous and used frequently. Microsoft word and WPS office writers are some of the most popular word processors.

More examples of a word processor are Open Office Writer, WordGraph, AbleWord, RoughDraft, FocusWriter, Judoom, LibreOffice Writer, Writemonkey, etc. We can create different types of files like text files (.txt), HTML file (.html and .htm), word files (.docx and .doc) and others using the word processor.

Uses and Features of Word Processor

Here are the following Uses and features of a Word Processor, such as:

  1. Text editing and formatting: A WP allows us to edit the text size, font, color, and we can also change the design and format of the text.
  2. Copy, Cut, and Paste: It allows us the features like copy, cut, and paste, which we can use to create our document fast.
  3. Multimedia: It also allows us to use pictures, charts, videos, and different shapes available in a document.
  4. Grammar and spelling: It also helps us create a document error-free. It detects grammatical and spelling errors and suggests the correct one.
  5. Layouts: The biggest advantage of a word processor is it provides the feature of changing the page's layout. We can also fix the margins and spacing using these features.
  6. Find: This feature is used to find the words or sentences in a document that becomes more important in the document with a large number of pages.
  7. Search and Replace: This feature helps us edit the document by finding a word and replacing it with another word.
  8. Lists and Indentation: The indentation feature of a word processor helps us put indent before the paragraph, making the document more beautiful and meaningful. The list feature gives us a greater advantage that we can use to show the lists using different formats like in number, alphabet, and bullet format. It also allows us to create nested lists.
  9. Tables: This feature is used to create tables in a document.
  10. Word Wrap: The WP detects the edges and wraps the text into the next line with fixed margins from all sides.
  11. Text Books: A WP allows us to create a book with pictures. We can place the picture into predefined places or move it as we want.
  12. Quick Parts: It allows us to put other details like author, title, company details, etc.
  13. Header and Footer: We can add header and footer in a document with the help of a word processor.
  14. Word Art and Drop Cap: A WP also comes with the feature of word art and drop cap, which is used to create different text styles like 3D text and page styles.
  15. Equations and Symbols: this feature allows us to use predefined and post-defined equations and symbols.
  16. Signature line, Date & time, and Object: The signature line is used to add the signature line, and we can use the date and time feature to write the date and time on our document. And the Object feature is used to insert an embedded object or text from another file into your document.
  17. Links: Link is used to create links in our document for quick access to web pages and files. We can use the bookmark to direct jump specific places in our document. And cross-reference refers to the specific place in our documents like header, pictures, and tables.
  18. Document Formatting: This feature is useful for creating an impactful document that gives us some predefined design.
  19. Page Background: This feature allows us to use a watermark, change page color and add borders in our document.
  20. Page Setup: This feature allows us to fix the margins, page size, line numbers, columns, etc.
  21. Paragraph: This feature is useful in adding an indent and spacing between paragraphs.
  22. Arrange: This feature positions the image is used in word wrapping, alignment, etc.
  23. Table of content: This feature is useful in adding a table of content for our document.
  24. Footnotes: We can use it to add a footnote in our document.
  25. Caption: We can add a caption to a picture using this feature.
  26. Create: This feature is used to create labels and envelop for mailing purposes.
  27. Start mail merge: We can use the mail merge feature when we need to share our documents with other people.
  28. Proofing, Accessibility, and language: These features are useful in checking the spelling and grammatical mistakes, adding descriptions of an object for a screen reader, and translating the content of our documents.

There are more features in a WP, which gives us great advantages in creating beautiful, meaningful, and error-free documents.
