Cleanest City in India

India is a vast country with almost thousands of cities and towns. Each city of India has its own identity, culture, and tradition. However, these attributes are good enough to make a choice when it comes to choosing the best one to live. The one thing that is common there in almost all cities is pollution. In some cities, it is in less amount while the cities with an industrial area contain it more. The state government, along with the central government, had taken several measures in the past to get rid of it. And somehow, a few of the cities are now on the list of the cleanest ones. In this article, we will take a look at the cleanest city in India in detail.

Indore, the Cleanest City in India

Cleanest City In India

Indore, the largest and most populated city in India's Central State of Madhya Pradesh, is the most popular historical city. It is both a historic and a modernized city. Administrative headquarters for both the Indore District and the Indore Division are located here. Indore is one of the most well-known and frequented cities due to its rich history, gorgeous surroundings, unique cultures, and numerous tourist attractions. But currently, Indore is getting more attention because of its cleanness.

Indore has been named the cleanest city in the country. It is the first city to win the famous Swachh Survekshan award four times in a row. For the last four years, the city, also known as Madhya Pradesh's main financial center, has continuously taken the top spot. Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar stated that Indore had become an inspiration for the whole country by winning the famous Swachh Survekshan award for the fourth time in a row. He also used the occasion to congratulate the state's Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, and the city's people.

Process That Made It Possible

The state government has made several steps to attain this goal throughout the years. Other states and cities can get a few lessons out of it and can be used to make the city clean and safe to live in.

Let's discuss these steps taken.

  • Garbage collection At The Doorstep, By Dump Trucks
  • Cleanest City In India

Every morning in Indore, waste trucks play the catchy tune "Indore hua hai number one" sung by Bollywood musician Shaan in 2017, after Indore was awarded first out of 471 towns and cities in the government's Swachhata Sarvekshan. “On a daily basis, the dump truck travels from one edge of the city to the other, and everybody comes out to deliver their trash when they hear the song".  And the process is done across the whole city, and the participation of individuals is amazing.

  • By Removing out The Public Waste Dump Place
  • Cleanest City In India

Since 2016, the municipal corporation of Indore (IMC) has removed waste dump, achieved 100% home waste separation, and transformed waste into useful goods like compost and fuel. To assure the implementation of its waste management strategy, it worked with non-governmental organizations for an awareness campaign, hired private firms to handle some waste management operations, employed technology, and increased municipal capacity.

  • Damp Truck Tracker Introduced
  • Cleanest City In India

Guys sat in front of computers with huge displays, tracking the path of 468 garbage vehicles that collect trash door to door. These guys are notified if there is an issue on any route, such as a breakdown, a road closure, or an ill driver, and also they can even track if the driver tries to escape any particular route.

  • Road cleaning

Machines sweep 800 kilometers of key highways every night, while water spray washes walkways and road barriers. Every night, 400 liters of water are used, most of which is recycled water from the IMC's three sewage treatment facilities. The remaining 2,200 kilometers of internal roads are swept, and garbage is gathered in gunny bags, collected by vans, and sent to a waste processing plant. Around twenty and thirteen thousand metric tons of dust were removed in the first six months of road cleaning.

  • Converting waste to fuel
  • Cleanest City In India

Every day, around 20 tons of waste are collected and converted into 750-800 kg of bio-compressed natural gas. The business has a 15-year contract with the IMC to run the facility. The generated natural gas is used to power city buses and sold at a fair discounted price to hotels as cooking fuel. The waste from the flower market is kept separate and composted with sewage.

  • Program sustainability
  • Cleanest City In India

According to projections, Indore would create 2,000 metric tons of garbage every day in ten years, up from the present 1,200 metric tons. The goal is to minimize waste and maintain it below 1,500 metric tons by decreasing plastic waste and using food waste. In 2019, Indore was ranked first out of 100 cities having populations of more than ten lakhs. Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, came in second, followed by Chandigarh and the Indian capital New Delhi.

  • Decentralized waste management
  • Cleanest City In India

The market produces nearly 1 ton of food waste every day. On average, by only three shops Young Tarang, Vijay Chaat House, and Johny Hot Dog make twelve thousand servings each day. All restaurants gather their trash and bring it to a little garden at one end of the street, situated within a traffic triangle. At 10 p.m., the operations crew from Swaha, the composting NGO, weighs and prepares the garbage for the composting van.

Conclusion

This article discuss in detail about cleanest city of INDIA. If Indore can make this task doable, then why not other cities can. We can find many cities down on the list, even those more developed cities than Indore. The state government's actions are indeed praiseworthy. And learning from it can make a huge difference in the future aspect of survival as pollution is impacting negatively.
