Difference between Baseband and Broadband
In this article, we are going to learn about the differences between baseband and broadband. We are going to learn about importance of each in the respective fields. We are going to briefly study about the major differences in baseband and broadband.
What is Baseband?
Baseband is related to digital signal transmission in the networking where the entire bandwidth with the baseband system carries only one data signal at a time. In other words, every single signal would require an exclusive use of the shared media. It means when a single person is using a medium, another person cannot use the same medium. They must wait for their chance or for a certain time period. Ethernet is an example of the baseband system.
What is Broadband?
Broadband technically refers to a type of signal transmission technique. The broadband can carry two different signals at a time and two or more different types of signals at a time in two different separate channels. Broadband signals can share one medium. It is basically like a multiple lane highway.
Advantages of Baseband
The baseband has so many advantages. It is used in wide range of signal transmissions. This technology facilitates the users to do multiple works at a time. The user can do different tasks like receiving and sending the data file or signals at a time. The handling of different tasks at a time or simultaneously brings the major advantage for the baseband or for this technology. The baseband decreases the time because the two different operations can be done in the single span of time. The baseband is widely used in the Ethernet connections for transferring the different type of files. The baseband can be easily established and less costly than the other technology.
Advantages of Broadband
The broadband have its own advantages in the respective field. The broadband carries the signals for longer distances. The broadband is used to transfer different types of data files. It can transfer audio files as well as video files. The data files can also be transferred using the broadband technology.
Disadvantages of Baseband
The baseband technology has its own disadvantages. The major disadvantage of the baseband connection is that its signals can only travel for shorter distances. This drawback causes major disadvantage for the baseband. The ends can only connect nearer receivers and senders and the signals cannot be transmitted to longer distances.
Disadvantages of Broadband
The broadband can only transfer the signal in one direction which is the major drawback of the broadband. This technology is more costly than the other technologies. The establishment of this technology is very hard and cost effective.
Differences between Baseband and Broadband in Tabular Form
Baseband | Broadband |
The signals present in the baseband uses full bandwidth. | Many numbers of signals use this media bandwidth. |
The signals in the bandwidth travel for very short distances. | The fiber optic cables make easier and convenient way to transfer the signals. |
The setup of these type basebands is low and cost efficient. | By the help of this technology, the different types of audio files, video files and the data files can be transferred at a time. |
The communication of the signals in the baseband can be possible in both the directions. | The signals in the broadband can travel only in one direction. |
The baseband is capable of sending and receiving the signal at a time. | Only one type of action like while sending a file, we cannot receive the file or while we are receiving a file, we cannot send a file. |
The baseband type of mechanisms is mainly used in the Ethernet. | The broadband technology is mainly used in the T V cables and for landline phone communication. |
