Difference between Coaxial Cable and Twisted Pair Cable

What is Coaxial Cable?

A type of guided medium used to carry out the transmission of high-frequency signals is called coaxial cable. The solid inner conductor of coaxial cables aids in the electrical communication systems of the signals. Signals are transmitted as electrical impulses thanks to the solid inner conductor in coaxial cables. High-speed communication has also heavily relied on coaxial cables. It has been utilized in data centers with 10 Gigabit lines since it has shown to be economical for residential networks and short links with fewer than 10 meters.

Characteristics of a Coaxial Cable

  • This design is used to transmit high-frequency signals.
  • The two types of coax cables are RG59 and RG6.
  • The inner conductor delivers the signal in electrical form.
  • Coax cable isn't affected by magnetic fields.
  • The cost of cable is somewhat more costly.

Twisted Pair Cable

A Twisted Pair Cable is a type of guided media in which two wires are twisted to form a transmission circuit. Insulated copper wires are combined to form twisted pair cables. The main applications for twisted pair cables are cable shielding & telephone networks. There are two types of twisted pair cables: shielded twisted pair (STP) and unshielded twisted pair (UTP). In unshielded twisted pairs, the cable is made up of insulators and wires. On the other hand, the foil jacket on shielded twisted pair cables helps to cut down on crosstalk and outside noise. Inductive and capacities coupling between items of hardware, racks, and buildings is often eliminated using this technique.

Characteristics of a Twisted Pair Cable

  • Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) or Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) are the two types of Ethernet cables used today (STP).
