Difference between RIP and EIGRP

1. Routing Information Protocol (RIP)

In the Routing Information Protocol (RIP), 15 hops are allowed at most because it avoids source-to-destination routing loops. Erroneous or incorrect routing information is avoided using techniques like the split horizon, route poisoning, and hold down. Without some little randomization of the timer, Sally Floyd and Van Jacobson (1994) contend that the timers synchronize over time. Unlike other routing protocols, RIP is inadequate and has a modest network size limit. Because RIP utilizes UDP, it has several advantages (User Datagram Protocol).

2. Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol (EIGRP)

EIGRP is the acronym for a protocol that enables routers to communicate with nearby ones that are located nearby. Rather than forwarding the complete packet to the nearby router, the workload and amount of data that must be communicated are reduced since the information that is required is provided. It was created by CISCO as a system that can only be utilized with CISCO routers, though it became open source in 2013, with the ability to utilize with another router. The EIGRP maintains the neighbor table and topology table.

Difference between RIP and EIGRP in Tabular Form

Routing Information Protocol (RIP)Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol (EIGRP)
RIP stands for Routing Information Protocol.  EIGRP stands for Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol.
Bellman-Ford algorithm is used by RIP.  A DUAL (Diffusing Update Algorithm) algorithm is used by EIGRP.
It is a dynamic routing protocol that is widely used.  It is a standard routing protocol from Cisco.
It is mostly utilized by smaller organizations.  Compared to RIP, it is mostly used for larger organizations.
A distance vector protocol is RIP.  Integrated Gateway Routing Protocol gives way to EIGRP.
It permits a maximum hop count of 15.  It allows a maximum hop count of 255.
It is 120 miles away administratively. The administrative distance is 90.
It is not a dynamic routing protocol that is more intelligent.  Compared to RIP, it is a more intelligent routing protocol.
The metric is computed using the Hop Count.  The metric is computed in terms of bandwidth and delay.
Two tables are created by the RIP routing protocol in the router: the Routing Table and the Topology Table.  Three tables are created in the router by the EIGRP routing protocol: Routing Table, Neighbor Table, and Topology Table.
The symbol "R" is used to signify RIP in the routing table.  EIGRP is identified in the routing table by the letter "D."
The RIP routing protocol does not support the creation of different administrative boundaries.  In the EIGRP routing protocol, an autonomous system (AS) No. It can be used to define a distinct administrative boundary.
