Difference between NPM and NPX

What is NPM?

NPM is an acronym for Node Package Manager, which serves as Node.js's default package manager. It was created by Isaac Z. Schlueter and was first made available on January 12, 2010. It is totally written in JavaScript. The NPM, which comprises of the command-line client NPM, maintains all the packages and modules for Node.js. With the installation of Node.js, it is added to the system. NPM is used to install the Node project's necessary packages and modules.

All the files required for a module are contained in a package, and modules are JavaScript libraries that can be added to a Node project depending on its needs.

How to Install a Package?

Using the following command, we may install a package:

NPM install package_name

We can run the package using NPM by typing the local path. We must type the package's local path exactly as follows:

What is NPX?

Node Package Execute, or NPX, is a component of NPM that is installed automatically when NPM is upgraded to a version higher than 5.2.0. It is a NPM package runner that allows you to run any package from the NPM registry without first installing it. In a single usage package, the NPX is helpful. NPX is not installed in your system if you have installed NPM earlier than version 5.2.0. Run the following command to see if NPX is installed or not:

NPX -v

If NPX is not already installed, you can install it by running the command listed below:

NPM install -g NPX

Run the package using NPX:

• Directly executable: You can launch your package without first installing it; just use the following command to do so.

NPX your-package-name

NPX is a package runner, thus you can use it to easily run any executable package from the NPM registry.
