Difference between Fixed and Dynamic Channel Allocations

Radio resource management for wireless and cellular networks uses channel allocation strategies to provide bandwidth and communication channels to base stations, access points, and terminal devices.The two types of channel allocation procedures are Fixed Channel Allocation and Dynamic Channel Allocation. Fixed Channel Allocation

Using the Fixed Channel Allocation (FCA) approach, cells are given a specific number of voice or data channels. Once the channels have been assigned to certain cells, they cannot be changed. Frequency reuse is enhanced when channels are assigned in FCA. If a user tries to call while the cell is already in use, the call is rejected. The answer to this issue is to take the channels from other cells.When there are a few constant users and a consistent stream of homogenous network traffic, fixed channel allocation schemes are chosen. Because the allocation method is straightforward, it can do without the overhead of complicated algorithms. Dynamic Channel Allocation

Dynamic channel allocation is a method of allocating channels where channels are not permanently assigned to cells. A user's request for a call is sent by the Base Station (BS) to the Mobile Station Center (MSC) for voice channel or channel allocation. This lessens the likelihood that calls may be blocked. Additional channels are assigned when traffic volume increases, and the opposite is also true.Since DCA modifies the bandwidth allocation based on traffic volume, it is especially well suited for busy traffic. DCA techniques, however, put more strain on the system's processing and storage resources.

Advantages of Fixed Channel Allocation

Advantages of Dynamic Channel Allocation

  • The Dynamic channel allocation allots the channels for the users as per the requirements of the user.
  • By the help of the Dynamic Channel Allocation the network resources will not be overly used.
  • When using voice transmission, there are fewer opportunities for service denial and call blocking.

Disadvantages of Fixed Channel Allocation

  • It is not very much suitable in these days because the number of users is increased a lot and it cannot handle the large number of users or clients.
  • When the number of users will be increased the bandwidth of each user channel will be decreased.

Disadvantages of Dynamic Channel Allocation

  • When the Dynamic channel allocation is used, it increases the load on the system.
  • The Dynamic channel allocation consumes large memory storage of the system.

Difference between Fixed and Dynamic Channel Allocations
