Difference between Fedora and CentOS Operating Systems

We are going to study about the Fedora and CentOS briefly. The Fedora and CentOS are both closely related to the Red Hat. These both help in maintaining the Operating systems. So, let’s discuss about the differences that are present in between Fedora and CentOS.

What is Fedora Operating System?

Fedora is one of the distributions for Linux. Fedora is developed by the community supported Fedora project. The development process was supported and sponsored by the Red Hat. It has the close relationship with the Red Hat. Fedora aims to be on the leading edge in this type of technologies already present in the market. Fedora contains a lot of free and open-source software’s which will be available for all the active users of Fedora. Fedora also contains the licenses of distributed software which are free to use. Fedora is mainly reputed for its focus on the innovation of the new software. It is also reputed for its integration with new emerging technologies, and they also work closely with upstream Linux communities. The Fedora is more stable than a lot of Linux distributions and it is also stable than the Arch Linux.

What is CentOS Operating System?

CentOS is similar to the Fedora. CentOS is also a Linux distribution. CentOS provides the free platform for many of the software. CentOS also provides the enterprise class and many communities supported platform for a lot of software’s and technologies. The CentOS is compatible with its upstream sources. CentOS developed a product which is very similar to RHEL and to develop that product they used the Red Hat source code a lot. The CentOS Distribution is also a stable distribution when compared to the Ubuntu operating system. The package updates in the CentOS will be updated at lower rates.

Advantages of Fedora

  • The Fedora offers many different technologies and architectures.
  • It is one of the most stable distributions and it is very reliable.
  • The Fedora supports many graphical tools.
  • Large community can be maintained and supported using the Fedora.
  • The Fedora also provides many security features for the user’s data.

Advantages of CentOS

  • There are a lot of advantages in using the CentOS.
  • CentOS is a very lightweight operating system, and it is a reliable and fast operating system.
  • The CentOS provides the enterprise grade software’s for free.
  • CentOS supports hypervisor and virtualization technologies like Docker, Xen etc.
  • The CentOS has very less updates and which makes it more stable and easier to use operating system.
  • The CentOS has a very good community support, and it has a provision to report bugs directly to the organization.

Disadvantages of Fedora

  • Fedora requires different variety of software tools to maintain the servers.
  • The multi file objects do not have any standard model.
  • The setup time for this operating system is very long.
  • When we are using the Fedora, we cannot access the other servers.

Disadvantages of CentOS

  • The CentOS distribution has very limited user base.
  • The CentOS distribution faces many difficulties to get the support on the customer forums.
  • The CentOS cannot be supported by all drivers, and it faces the compatibility issues.
  • We face a lot of issues while running particular software’s in the CentOS distribution.
  • Installing different packages will be hard in the CentOS distribution.
  • It does not support for all types of clouds and containers.
  • The Documentation of the CentOS distribution is not that comprehensive.
  • The CentOS is more suitable for the server side, but it is not suitable for the desktops.
