Difference between Autotrophs and Heterotrophs

"Autotrophs are creatures that can manufacture their own food through photosynthesis, whereas heterotrophs cannot and must rely on autotrophs for nourishment." A heterotroph is a creature that cannot create its own food and must rely on other organic carbon sources, mostly plant or animal materials, for sustenance.

Autotrophs

Autotrophs are creatures that eat in an autotrophic manner. These are creatures that can make their own sustenance from of basic ingredients such as carbon dioxide and water. Autotrophic plants include all green plants. The chlorophyll pigment in these green plants' plant cells aids in the creation of their own nourishment by absorbing energy from the sun. All autotrophs are producers and are found at the top of the food chain.

Carbohydrates may be turned to fatty acids, which can then be used to make lipids. To make organic molecules like proteins, more elements can be added. Both autotrophs and heterotrophs may utilize carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids as energy sources during respiration, recycling carbon dioxide for use in photosynthesis.

Heterotrophs

Heterotrophs are creatures that are unable to make their own food and must rely on producers, such as green plants and other animals. The heterotrophic method of nutrition is the name given to this way of eating.

Autotrophs provide a constant supply of new organic molecules to heterotrophs. Heterotrophs are consumers in the food chain, and they are classified as secondary or tertiary.

The finest examples of heterotrophs include all non-green plants and animals, including humans.

Photosynthesis benefits heterotrophs in a variety of ways.

• Directly as animals eating plants

• Indirectly, by attacking, killing, and devouring other herbivores, carnivores, or both animals and plants (omnivores);

• Directly, by utilizing oxygen for cellular respiration.

Cyanobacteria are both autotrophic and heterotrophic species. They eat in a photoautotrophic manner. Archaea is another example of a heterotrophic and autotrophic creature.

Meaning An organism capable to converting basic inorganic elements like carbon dioxide into nutritious organic compounds. Heterotrophs can't make organic molecules from inorganic sources, therefore they have to eat other creatures in the food chain to survive.
What do they consume and how do they intake it? For energy, they must produce their own food. To obtain proteins and energy, they consume other creatures.

Autotrophs

Autotrophs generate their own energy using one of two methods:

Photosynthesis - Photoautotrophs use the sun's energy to transform carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil into glucose. Plants get their energy from glucose, which is also used to create cellulose, which is used to form cell walls. Plants, algae, phytoplankton, and microbes, for example. Carnivorous plants, such as pitcher plants, produce energy through photosynthesis but rely on other creatures for nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus. As a result, these plants are essentially autotrophs.

Chemosynthesis - Chemoautotrophs produce food using energy from chemical processes. Typically, the chemical reactions include hydrogen sulfide/methane and oxygen. Chemoautotrophs get their carbon mostly from carbon dioxide. E.g. Bacteria found in active volcanoes, seafloor hydrothermal vents, and hot springs.

Heterotrophs

Heterotrophs rely on organic materials created by or found in other species to live. Heterotrophs are divided into two categories:

Photo-heterotrophs - these heterotrophs get their energy from light, but they can't get their carbon from carbon dioxide. Carbohydrates, fatty acids, and alcohol are all sources of carbon for them. Purple non-sulfur bacteria, green non-sulfur bacteria, and helio-bacteria are some examples. Chemo-heterotrophs - Heterotrophs that obtain their energy through the oxidation of preformed organic molecules, i.e., by consuming other creatures, both dead and living. Animals, fungus, bacteria, and nearly all diseases are examples.
