Emraan Hashmi was born into a Muslim household on March 24, 1947, in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Hashmi studied at Jamnabai Narsee School. Meherbano Mohammad Ali, often known by the stage name 'Purnima,' was his paternal grandmother and an actress who stayed in India when Syed Shaukat Hashmi moved to Pakistan after India was partitioned. Meherbano Mohammad Ali later married filmmaker Bhagwan Das Varma, joining the Varma clan and becoming stepgrandfather to Bhagwan Das Emraan. Meherbano, the mother of Mahesh & Mukesh Bhatt, the producers, and Hashmi's uncles, as well as Shirin Mohammad Ali's sister, welcomed Emraan into the Bhatt family. Mohit Suri's cousin Hashmi has collaborated with him on several films. Actor Rahul Bhatt belongs to his family as well as Pooja and Alia Bhatt.

He appeared in Anurag Basu's sensuous thriller ‘Murder’ opposite Mallika Sherawat and Mr. Ashmit Patel. Personal Life

Hashmi wed Parveen Shahani in an Islamic wedding in December 2006, after a six-and-a-half-year relationship. The couple had a boy on February 3, 2010, whom they named Ayaan Hashmi. Ayaan was identified with first-stage cancer on Jan 15, 2014. In January 2019, six and a half years after being diagnosed with cancer Ayaan Hashmi received the confirmation. His mother Maherrah Hashmi died away on March 11, 2016, so Hashmi postponed one day of shooting for his film ‘Azhar’ as soon as he found out. He preferred to keep his mind occupied and did not want to put off the shooting of ‘Azhar’ any longer. So as early as he could, he went back to the sets.
