Zayn Malik - Biography

Zain Javadd Malik also known as Zayn, is a British musician. He was born on January 12, 1993. Malik, a Bradford native and current participant on The X Factor, had his solo audition for the British music contest tv show in 2010. Malik was invited back into the contest after being ousted to create the five members boy band One Direction, which went on to be one of the most excellent boy musicians of all time. In March 2015, he announced his departure from the band and inked a recording deal with R.C.A. Records for a solo album.

Zayn Malik

Zain Javadd Malik was born on January 12, 1993, in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. He is the son of Yaser Malik, an immigrant Pakistani Muslim, and Trisha Malik, a White British woman of English and Irish ancestry who converted to Islam after marriage. Malik has three sisters in total: Waliyha, Safaa, and Doniya, the youngest sister. He was raised in an Islamic family, although he no longer considers himself a Muslim.

Malik was raised in a working-class household in an area in East Bowling, Bradford. He studied at Tong High School in Bradford, which is now Tong Leadership Academy, and Lower Fields Primary School. He participated in school performances and studied musical theatre as a teenager. He was raised on his father's collection of urban music, mainly R&B, hip hop, and reggae. When musician Jay Sean paid a visit to his school, he began writing rap songs and performing on stage for the first time. From the age of 15 to 17, Malik fought for two years as well. He had planned to acquire an academic degree in English to become an English teacher before starting his music career.

Career

When Zayn Malik participated in the 2010 auditions for Britain's "The X Factor," his career got underway. Although Zayn was a little apprehensive about participating in the show, he did so at her mother's persuasion. When he entered the competition as a solo artist, he was disqualified. However, he was subsequently invited back to the program with three other lads, and as a result, the band "One Direction" was created. Another key player in the band was Harry Styles. They gained popularity in the U.K. and the U.S.A., and their singles "What makes you beautiful," "Gotta be you," and "One Thing" was immediately popular with the public. Zayn left the band in 2015 because he wanted to spend more time alone. He contradicted any rift that had been reported.

The vocalist, Zayn Malik, is fantastic. No question exists regarding that. He was even considered the most well-liked member of the boy band "One Direction" at one point, but Harry Styles quickly overtook him in popularity. Looking back, we can see that Zayn Malik made a minimal contribution to One Direction's fame and had a minimal Twitter fan base when he left the band.

After leaving the band, Zayn's life was not particularly easy, and it took him some time before he could build a name for himself.

Zayn Malik's debut track after leaving One Direction, "I Wo Mind," was made available on Soundcloud in 2015 by English producer Naughty Boy.

Zayn also collaborated with Krept and Young, a British hip-hop group, at the same time. Even if the collaboration didn't produce much, Zayn garnered a sizable fan base in the U.K., even if the cooperation didn't have much notable.

In 2015, Zayn's first successful song, "Mind of Mine," was published with R.C.A. Records. Pillowtalk and Like I Would, two of the album's significant songs, peaked at the top of the charts worldwide. Zayn also wrote his autobiography during about the same period of his treatment.

Without revealing the release date or album's title, Zayn began releasing tracks from his second album in 2017. Before declaring the launch of his second album, Icarus Falls, in 2018, Zayn had already made several songs, including "Dusk 'til Dawn," "Let Be," and "Entertainer."

For the 2019 film "Aladdin," Zayn sang a unique version of "A Whole New World." "Nobody is listening," Malik's third album featured another song released in 2020.

In the industry of fashion, Zayn is also a well-known figure. Together with Italian fashion designer Giuseppe Zanotti, he developed a shoe brand in 2017. A Versace capsule collection called Zayn x Versus was released in 2017 for both men and women. For a company named The Kooples, he also created a line of backpacks in 2018.

Fashion

Malik debuted on The Business of Fashion's annual BoF500 ranking in 2016, which lists the industry's most significant figures. He debuted a shoe collection in January 2017 with Italian footwear designer Giuseppe Zanotti. There were two boot designs and two footwear styles in the Giuseppe for Zayn special edition. Malik and model Adwoah Aboah were featured in the Versus (Versace) Spring/Summer 2017 campaign, which they presented in February 2017. He also co-hosted the Americans in Paris annual drink at Paris Fashion Week that same month, sponsored by the CFDA and Vogue Fashion Fund. Malik's men's and women's capsule collections, which debuted in May 2017, were created by Malik under the Creative Direction of Versace's chief designer, Donatella Versace.

Malik created backpacks for The Kooples in September 2018. He served as a model in the spring 2018 and 2019 advertisements for Penshoppe. Additionally, he posed for Martyre, a brand started by Anwar Hadid, the brother of Malik's ex-girlfriend Gigi.

Philanthropy And Activism

The British Asian Trust is a nonprofit organization that works to better the lives of underprivileged people in South Asia, and Malik is a recognized ambassador for the organization. He supported Comic Relief fundraising activities for Africa with his former band, One Direction. Malik gave his guitar to the Kean's Children Fund in Dundee, Scotland, in April 2014. The charity's founder, Charlie Kean, held a web sale for the instrument and used the proceeds to purchase iPads for the kids' ward at Ninewells. In honour of his maternal grandpa, Walter Brannan, Malik purchased a box at Bradford City in March 2016 for disadvantaged kids to watch football. Malik sent £10,000 in January 2020 to a GoFundMe campaign set up by the girl's mother to seek money for the five-year-old's medical expenses.

Malik shared petition links and contributed to the George Floyd memorial fund in May and June 2020 to show his love for the Black Lives Matter movement. The hashtag "#FreePalestine" was used by Malik on Twitter during the 2014 Israel-Gaza conflict, prompting heated comments and violent threats.

Personal Life

Malik, who was brought up as a Muslim, is fluent in English, Urdu, and Arabic. Malik has previously been the subject of anti-Muslim assaults. Malik said in 2017 that he was a non-practicing Muslim and didn't like being known for his ethnic or religious heritage. In an interview with British Vogue in November 2018, he stated that he was no longer a Muslim.

One Direction member Malik has admitted publicly to having an eating issue as a band member. He blamed the busy schedule and speed of life on tour for his condition. Additionally, Zayn has talked about feeling nervous and lacking confidence, particularly before live solo shows. He has cancelled many shows after having "the greatest anxiety" in his professional life, which led to the symptoms.

Malik has supported Bradford City A.F.C. throughout his whole childhood. In addition to his SoHo flat in Manhattan, he has previously had residences in London and Los Angeles, both of which he sold in 2018.

Relationships

From 2010 until 2011, Malik was romantically involved with fellow X Factor finalist Geneva Lane of Belle Amie. Malik began dating English singer Perrie Edwards of the band Little Mix in December 2011. They were together in August 2013 and split up in August 2015. Malik dated X Factor participant Rebecca Ferguson for many months after that, until July 2011, and actress Stephanie Davis that same year.

Late in 2015, Malik started dating American model Gigi Hadid. The two had had on-and-off relationships. He included Hadid in the video song "Pillowtalk," and the two shared the Vogue cover for August 2017. For a Versace campaign, Hadid took pictures of them both in 2017. Malik and Hadid gave birth to a daughter, a girl, in September 2020. Malik looked after the family's horses and calves at their home on a working farm in rural Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where Yolanda and Bella Hadid's mother also owns the property. The family also lived there for most of the time. Following Hadid's mother's accusation that he had struck her, Malik and Hadid called it quits in October 2021. Malik also pleaded not guilty to four charges of assault. According to court documents, Malik used "lewd, lascivious, threatening, or obscene statements" while also "grabbing and pushing her against a dresser, inflicting mental agony and physical suffering." A Pennsylvania judge sentenced him to a year and a half of probation and the performance of classes on domestic abuse and anger control.

Geneva Lane

In 2010, when he turned 17 and Geneva Lane was 20, Zayn dated another The X Factor (U.K.) participant for a limited period. Following the grand finale programme, they were seen kissing on camera on December 12, 2010, and the following day, Zayn announced their relationship on Twitter. The following month, on January 21, 2011, they formally ended their relationship.

Rebecca Ferguson

When Zayn was 18 and Rebecca Ferguson was 23, they dated for four months in 2011 as contestants on The X Factor (U.K.) season seven. The five-year age difference in their bond attracted media attention. Although they first met while competing on The X Factor, Rebecca said it took some time before they began to see another difference. There was no specific point in time; everything merely developed. Rebecca claimed she and Zayn had just drifted apart following their breakup in July 2011. Rebecca sends him my warmest wishes.

On the other hand, Zayn said in October 2012, "It shouldn't have occurred. It was simply a bad concept from the outset. We haven't spoken since it turned out poorly. We don't communicate at all. " In 2013, Ferguson referred to the union as "a mistake," claiming that the age difference wasn't worth the following criticism.

Perrie Edwards

Perrie Edwards, a contestant in the female group Little Mix that won The X Factor for the ninth season, was a former fiancée of Zayn and a former flame. During a guest appearance by One Direction on the programme in November 2011, they became friends. The couple was spotted kissing by the paparazzi in May 2012. They were plagued by four different Zayn cheating stories, including one in which the lady he allegedly cheated on posted online pictures of him sleeping in bed. Zayn and Perrie announced their engagement in August 2013. In response to the fourth betrayal scandal in February 2015, Zayn took a flight back to the U.K. The following week, he left One Direction. In June 2015, Perrie playfully referred to herself as "Perrie Malik," indicating that he and she were still engaged and arranging a wedding.

Perrie announced their separation on August 4, 2015. Zayn called off the wedding a month prior, ending their love story. In an interview with Fader Magazine published in November 2015, Zayn said he did not terminate things with Perrie by text message, saying, "I have much more respect for Perrie than to finish anything through a text message. Since we have been together for four years, I have loved her deeply and will continue to do so. She knows my awareness and that the general public needs to be mindful of it. I want the world to see that I didn't do that; I don't want to justify my actions or explain what I did.

Gigi Hadid

Zayn's relationship with American model Gigi Hadid started in November 2015. Gigi made an appearance in Pillowtalk, Zayn's first music video. Along with attending the 2016 Met Gala together, the two have appeared in other high-fashion magazine picture sessions. Though they first announced their separation in March 2018, Zayn and Gigi later got back together. The couple's first baby, Khai, was born on September 24, 2020, thanks to Hadid. The identity of Khai has not been disclosed. Zayn and Gigi have been apart since October 20, 2021, due to a personal quarrel with Gigi's mother. Check out the Controversies section for further details on the argument.

Artistry And Public Image

Being mostly raised on R&B, hip hop, reggae, bop and Indian music, Malik credits urban music as his primary source of musical inspiration. Music by Biggie, Gregory Isaacs, Chris Brown, Usher, Donell Jones, Prince, 2Pac, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, R. Kelly, Yellowman, and Donell Jones, among others, had an impact on him. Before entering One Direction, Malik tried out as a solo R&B performer. He had a distinctive R&B vocal style that contrasted with the band's pop-rock sound; subsequently, he claimed artistic disagreements as another reason for departing the group.

Malik is a tenor singer with a broad vocal range who is well-known for his high notes, falsetto, and belting styles. He was thought to be One Direction's best singer, according to Jamieson Cox in Time. According to Brad Nelson of The Guardian, "He had one of the most versatile vocal ranges in the group and was among the more skilled singers. He mostly sang in a silvery, full-bodied tenor comparable to Harry Styles' smoky warble but more intelligent and specific, claiming that his absence would leave "a hole of vocal agility."

Due to his naughty actions, controversies, tattoos, graffiti, and rock star haircuts, Malik was dubbed the "Bradford Bad Boy" of One Direction. Before X Factor, Malik had expressed his love for tattoos, saying he liked "the whole culture around them" and enjoyed having them. On his Twitter page, he showed off his first tattoo, which bears the Arabic name of his paternal grandfather: Walter. Malik has added several new tattoos since that time. Billboard editor Joe Lynch described him when they discussed his potential solo career after quitting the band. In interviews, the group's quietest member is seldom the one to steal the show. Usually, he left his best lines for the songs rather than for soundbites in the media.

Malik is frequently mentioned in Pakistan while discussing critical diasporic Pakistanis. On the "World's Sexiest Men" list published by Glamour in 2011, he came in at number 27. Malik was named the best-dressed man of 2014 by British GQ. He received many awards in 2015, including "Sexiest Male in Pop" from British radio network Capital, "World's Sexiest Asian Man" from a global survey conducted by the British publication Eastern Eye, "World's Top Ten Bachelors" from Manchester's Crown Clinic, and the sixth position on MTV's list of the "50 Sexiest Men Alive." He came in at number five on the "100 Sexiest Men" list published by Glamour magazine in 2016.

Using data from Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Pandora, Forbes believes that Malik has a following of more than 50 million people as of April 2016. Zquad is the name of his fanbase.

Leaked Video

In May 2014, the Daily Mail published a video shot in April by Louis, a former member of One Direction. While transported to a Peru performance, the video shows Zayn and Louis consuming cannabis together with other management staff members. In the video, Zayn criticized One Direction's official gear, saying that both the group and the supporters had grown weary of catering to a much younger demographic and lacked creative innovation. In response to his alleged use of racist insults, Louis faced criticism from the media. The group has never officially addressed the event or the video, although Liam apologized for their part on Twitter.

Cheating Allegations

Numerous rumours about Zayn's infidelity circulated in the media throughout their four-year marriage to Perrie Edwards. Despite no concrete confirmation, in 2013, photographs of Zayn dozing off in bed, shot by the waitress he allegedly slept with, were posted online. When paparazzi photos of Zayn holding hands with a lady and caressing her were published online in March 2015, and the woman shared a photo of herself in Zayn's arms, the accusations resurfaced. Upon hearing the rumours, Zayn took to Twitter to express his outrage, writing, "I'm 22 years old... I love a lady named Perrie Edwards. And there's a lot of envious f*cks in this world. I'm sorry for what it seems like x." One Direction terminated the world tour the next day, and a week later, Zayn announced his departure from the group.

Publicity Relationship Rumors

Numerous rumours about Zayn's infidelity circulated in the media throughout their four-year marriage to Perrie Edwards. When paparazzi photos of Zayn holding hands with a lady and caressing her were published online in March 2015, and the woman shared a photo of herself in Zayn's arms, the accusations resurfaced. I'm sorry for what it seems like x. " One Direction terminated the world tour the next day, and a week later, Zayn announced his departure from the group.

Since Simon Cowell founded One Direction and Little Mix, many people think that Zayn's connection with Perrie was probably contrived for attention and used as a cover-up for Zayn's claimed relationship with Liam. Fans saw that whenever One Direction released new music, a controversy involving Perrie would frequently make headlines and that Zayn was invited to interviews with Little Mix. Both fans and media sources first spread similar rumours regarding Zayn's connection with Gigi Hadid.

Naughty Boy

Beginning in early 2014 and ending in mid-2015, Zayn collaborated briefly with producer Naughty Boy (actual name Shahid Khan). Simon Cowell and Naughty Boy are friends and have connections to Syco Music. One Direction and Naughty Boy reportedly became tense when they decided not to include tracks they had worked on together in 2014 on their album Four. Zayn and Naughty Boy seemed tight, and the two even bought 'Naughty' tracksuits together in 2014. Following Zayn's departure from One Direction in March 2015, Naughty Boy tweeted several insulting messages, calling the band's followers "Zaughty" and declaring that he had "won." He received criticism from Louis Tomlinson through the tweet, "Wow @NaughtyBoyMusic, you're such a slob. How old the heck are you? Be mature! # masteroffallwisdom". In reply, Naughty Boy leaked an incomplete solo song by Zayn titled "I Won't Mind" in its roughest form.

Tomlinson and Naughty Boy got into another Twitter argument in May 2015 after Naughty Boy replied to Liam's Instagram post claiming he had found an alternative for the band's fifth member. Louis immediately blasted Naughty when she shared a picture on Twitter with the caption, "Replace this." In response, Naughty Boy said Louis was an autotune user and couldn't sing. After the fight, Louis was addressed by Zayn through Twitter with the following message: "Remember that time you had life and quit producing sarcastic remarks about mine?"

These incidents sparked the fan-led initiative to release "No Control" as an unauthorized single. In July 2015, Zayn cut ties with Naughty Boy, tweeting, "@NaughtyBoyMusic you big joke, stop pretending we're pals." Rae Sremmurd's song "No One Recognizes You" after the rapper uploaded his copy of Rae Sremmurd's song "No Type" and a music video he secretly shot in January 2015 (before leaving 1D). Later, Naughty Boy collaborated with Beyonce on the number-one track, Running. Louis and Zayn reconciled in January 2017, but their relationship appears strained as of 2019.

Zayn Malik

Racism

Zayn, who is partly Pakistani, used to follow Islam up until 2018. He has faced several racial taunts from the general public and the media.

Zayn closed his Twitter account in August 2012 due to persistent racial abuse and adultery claims. He then changed the look of his Twitter account, but after posting #FreePalestine in 2014, amid an especially horrific wave of bombs between Palestine and Israel, he started to get more abuse and death threats.

In 2014, Zayn was named a terrorist on the American talk show The Daily Show. The show addressed the joke after a response from fans who claimed they were unaware of his Muslim faith. Later, they mocked his supporters for supporting him.

In 2015, American comedian Bill Maher similarly likened Zayn to a terrorist and made fun of his supporters in response to their anger. Zayn was cited in a Huffington Post story from November 2015 regarding the terrorist organization ISIS as an example of a prominent Western Muslim personality. Social media posts about the report show that Zayn has relations with terrorists. The Huffington Post removed the content and issued an apology. In a 2015 Fader interview, Zayn discussed the prejudice he has experienced, saying, "As the band's lone member of a minority group and the West's lone most renowned Muslim star, Zayn has encountered misconception to an inconceivable degree...after listening to Zayn talk, he cannot help but question how "regular" a Muslim person would have to be to appease all the world's bigots—and to raise awareness on the social movement opposing anti-terror laws. Zayn was shown in October 2015 sporting a shirt that stated, "I Am Not A Terrorist...Please Don't Arrest Me."

In interviews conducted at approximately the same time, Zayn also revealed that he had previously been questioned by American airport security, who would not allow him to go until he could demonstrate that he was a Simon Cowell employee.

Azealia Banks, a U.S. rapper, accused Zayn of appropriating black culture and her appearance and style for his "Like I Would" music video in a string of racist and homophobic tweets she sent out in May 2016. A music event declined her because of her suspension from Twitter. Later, she apologized for her remarks in a letter to Zayn that was made public.

Zayn faced criticism in July 2016 for tweeting many remarks favouring the "All Lives Matter" viewpoint. Fans thought this was disrespectful and misrepresented the goals of the "Black Lives Matter" demonstrations and protests. Zayn responded to these allegations by stating, "While I'm Brown Myself, I Understand It's Nothing To Do With Police Brute Force. It's About Minority Equality. " He ultimately removed all of the relevant tweets from his account. The Black Lives Matter movement received Zayn's support in 2020.

The Incident With Yolanda Hadid

Despite the harsh words, I am confident that everyone will recover. More significantly, though, I will keep watching out for Khai and giving her the respect she deserves in terms of privacy. " Later, he issued the following press release: "I strongly deny hitting Yolanda Hadid, and I choose to withhold any more information for the benefit of my daughter." Yolanda Hadid, the mother of Gigi Hadid, said that Zayn had hit her and her security staff on October 28, 2021, during a dispute about his infant daughter Khai. In response to the allegation made on Zayn, he twitted to maintain the space for Khai; he had decided not to defend accusations originating from an argument with a close relative of his girlfriend who invaded their home when his girlfriend was out some weeks ago. The incident was and still is a private affair, but it appears there is anger for the time being. Despite my attempts to bring our family back together and establish a calm environment that will enable me to co-parent my daughter in the way she needs, this has been "leaked" to the public. I sincerely hope Yolanda will rethink her unfounded accusations and take steps to resolve these family problems privately. According to a Gigi spokesperson, she is just concerned about what is best for Khai. She requests privacy at this time. People Magazine later confirmed the breakup between Gigi and Zayn. Zayn entered a plea of not guilty to harassment and received a fine and a 90-day probation sentence for four offences totalling 360 days. Yolanda and the security officer were forbidden from speaking to him, and he also had to undergo a domestic abuse programme and an anger management course. After six months, the court may decide to end probation if all requirements have been met.
