Sonam Kapoor: Biography, Age, Husband, Movies, Father, Education

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is a well-known Indian actress. She has received numerous honours, including National and Filmfare Awards. She was even ranked among India's top 100 most popular and wealthy celebrities by Forbes India. She had spent many years working in the Bollywood industry.

Sonam did not start as an actress. She decided to become a filmmaker and was given a chance to work on Black (2005) as an assistant director. Saawariya, Sonam's debut film, was a financial failure. After numerous setbacks and tribulations, she finally had a successful moment. Her first commercially successful film, I Hate Luv Storys was released in 2010.

The film Raanjhanaa marked Sonam's professional reversal. Her on-screen performance was lauded, and the movie was a box-office success. She received Best Actress Nomination from several award programs.

In the films Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Sanju, where she played supporting roles, Sonam found her greatest commercial success. One of the highest-grossing Bollywood movies, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, in which she played the major part, included the Sanju movie.

Young Life

Sonam Kapoor's father is the actor and producer Anil Kapoor. On June 9, 1985, she was born. Her father founded the Anil Kapoor Film Company. Sunita, Sonam's mother, has experience modeling and designing.

The sister of Sonam, who produces movies, goes by the name of Rhea. Her brother, Harshvardhan, also works in the Bollywood business. Sonam's aunts were the actors Sridevi and Mona Shourie.

For her primary education, she got accepted to Arya Vidya Mandir School. Sonam admits that as a mischievous and carefree young girl, she used to harass boys at school. She enjoyed playing sports and excelled at rugby and basketball in particular. Even classical music, Kathak, and Latin dance were taught to her.

When Sonam was 15, she performed one week of waitressing. She struggled with her weight as a teen. She had a certain skin condition, was unfit, and was unhealthy. She also had insulin resistance and polycystic ovary syndrome, and due to these diagnoses, she decided to raise awareness of diabetes.

Sonam enrolled in the United World College of South East Asia in Singapore to pursue a theatre and arts degree. She even registered for economics and political science classes at the University of Mumbai.

Career Fluctuations and Bollywood Debut

For the film Black, Sonam was chosen as an associate director. She became interested in acting when Bhansali mentioned he wanted to cast her as the lead in Saawariya.

Sonam's weight at that time was 80 kg, and Bhansali recommended she go down. She shed 35 kg in less than two years because she was motivated. Her acting instructors were Roshan Taneja, Feroz Abbas Khan, and Jayati Bhatia. Sonam adored Waheeda Rehman and Nutan for their acting prowess and other admirable qualities.

In the 2007 film Saawariya, Sonam portrayed a Muslim woman waiting for her lover to come home. Saawariya was a disappointment in the market and with the critics. Everyone had personal criticism of her acting abilities. However, Sonam received nominations for two award ceremonies: the Stardust Award for Female Superstar of Tomorrow and Filmfare for Best Female Debut.

She portrayed a young singer in Delhi-6, a 2009 movie in which she also acted. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed the film, which starred Waheeda Rehman and Abhishek Bachhan in opposing roles. This movie received a variety of reviews despite its poor box office performance.

Abbas Mustan directed a big-screen adaptation of The Italian Job (2003). The movie didn't do well commercially, despite the journalists' higher hopes. In the 2012 film Players, starring Abhishek Bachhan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Bipasha Basu, Sonam Kapoor played a hacker. Sonam was supposed to be played by Katrina Kaif at first. The film received favorable reviews and became one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2013. Raanjhanaa and Bhag Milkha Bhag were nominated for Best Films Filmfare Awards, which they later won.

The comedy-drama Bewakoofiyaan, produced by Yash Raj Films, cast Sonam in the lead role in 2014. With Rishi Kapoor and Ayushman Khurana as her opposite, she portrayed the banker Mayera Seghal.

Sonam received a role in Dolly Ki Doli in 2015, in which she portrayed a bride who typically cons men into marriage before fleeing. The male leads were Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, and Rajkumar Rao. Marriage and Movies with Female Leads

Air hostess Neerja Bhanot lost her life in 1986 while attempting to save the lives of passengers on board Pan Am Flight 73, which had been hijacked. Sonam Kapoor played the title character in the 2016 biographical thriller Neerja, which was based on the life of Neerja Bhanot. The movie's director was Ram Madhvani.

Because it was based on a true story, Sonam Kapoor took on this role very seriously. In preparation for her outstanding performance, she even met Bhanot's family. After a two-year absence from Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor returned in 2018. She portrayed a social worker in Pad Man, a movie by R. Balki. Arunachalam Muruganatham, an Indian social worker who promoted menstruation hygiene in rural regions, served as the model for this film. The story was influenced by Twinkle Khanna's book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad. The film's major actors were Radhika Apte and Akshay Kumar.

Even more so than just being entertaining, Kapoor claimed that this film is significant to her since it deals with social issues. While praising her performance, critics criticized her chemistry with Akshay Kumar due to their different ages.

The Indian businessman Anand Ahuja and Sonam Kapoor were wed on May 8, 2018. Sonam was cast in the biopic of Sanjay Dutt, Sanju, later that month. She made appearances in other films, including Veere Di Weeding, after a month. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, a 2019 movie, has Sonam in it. The focus of this film was societal themes once more. The narrative is about a girl who preferred other females to boys and illustrates how challenging it may be to come out to a traditional family. So, she gave her consent. The plot was well received by critics, as was her performance. The film was a commercial failure, though. The film co-stars were Juhi Chawla, Rajkumar Rao, and Anil Kapoor.
