Education and the Early Years

Rajesh Khanna was born on December 29, 1942, in a Hindu Khatri family in Amritsar, Punjab, India. Growing up, he went by the name Jatin Khanna. Lala Hiranand Khanna was his father's name, and Chandrani Khanna was his mother's. MC High School in Burewala was where his father worked as a teacher (Today in Pakistan). He was eventually adopted and raised by a relative of his father. Chunnilal and Leelawati Khanna adopted him.

Rajesh Khanna and his adoptive parents then relocated to Mumbai in 1935. He enrolled in St. Sebastian's Goan High School after arriving in Mumbai to further his education. Along with Rajesh Khanna, superstar Jeetendra (Ravi Kapoor) enrolled in this school.

Rajesh Khanna used to perform in numerous stage productions in high school and college since he dreamed of becoming an actor. He also received numerous honors and accolades for it. After attending St. Sebastian's Goan High School, he was accepted to Nowrosjee Wadia College, one of Pune's illustrious schools, in 1959 to finish his bachelor's degree in the arts. He attended this college for two years, from 1959 to 1961. Then, in 1961, he applied for admission to Kishinchand Chellaram College, also known as KC College, one of the most prestigious colleges in Mumbai, to continue his studies. Additionally, Jitendra, a friend of his, attended Siddharth Jain College.

The Beginning of Rajesh Khanna's Film Career

Although Rajesh Khanna's biological father did not support his decision to pursue acting, he had already decided as a young child that this was all he wanted to do; because of this, he participated in numerous stage productions, drama competitions, and theatre performances while in college. He performed in the play in 1962 as a wounded, quiet soldier. He performed flawlessly and left everyone in awe of his acting abilities in the play Andha Yug. Rajesh Khanna's acting thrilled the show's principal guest so much that he added, "You'll soon get an opportunity to act in movies."

Relationships and kids

Rajesh Khanna fell in love with actress and fashion designer Anju Mahendru when he first began his acting career. For unknown reasons, the two were together for about seven years before ending their relationship in 1972. When their romance ended, Mahendru once admitted that they went 17 years without speaking to one another. He later started dating Dimple Kapadia and wed her in 1973. In Indian films, she performs as an actress.

After a few years of marriage, Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia's separation widened. They were no longer connected as they once were, and as a result, they both desired separation. They finally divorced each other in 1982 after nine years of marriage.

Dimple Kapadia allegedly wanted to resume her acting career and work in movies, but Rajesh Khanna objected. He preferred that his wife stays at home, but Dimple Kapadia allegedly refused to follow his wishes, and as a result, the two became estranged from one another. They only ever split apart from one another rather than being divorced.

Death

Since June 2012, Rajesh Khanna's health has been declining; as a result, on June 23, he was hospitalized at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital. After spending a few days in the hospital, when his health began to improve, he was released and went home on July 8; however, on July 14, he was once more brought to Lilavati Hospital and was released two days later, on July 16. His health suddenly declined on July 18, 2012, and he passed away in his Mumbai Ashirwad Bungalow. He has reportedly been battling cancer for several years. On July 19, Rajesh Khanna's burial was held, and more than 9 lakh people attended to pay their respects.
