Roopa Ganguly's Marriage And Relationship

Ganguly had no interest in acting and did not desire to pursue a career as a model or actor. Some of her family inspired her to attempt acting. When she finally completed her studies, Bijoy Chatterjee looked for a new face with unplucked eyebrows for his Hindi short film Nirupama, based on Rabindranath Tagore's Bengali collection of short stories Dena Paona in 1986. Ganguly was originally unlikely to adopt his proposal, but she eventually agreed when her aunt persuaded her. In the film, Soumitra Chatterjee, who portrayed her character's father, supported her in accepting the heroine role.

In 1987, Ganguly advised Ramaprasad Banik to take a look test for the female protagonist in his Bengali TV series Muktabandha. Samaresh Majumdar, the TV series' screenwriter, thought she was unsuitable for the role once she came for the look test. Majumdar desired a beautiful actress to play the part of a call girl. He advised Banik to look for a different actress than Ganguly, whom he thought was old fashion, and later, Majumdar was invited to meet with Ganguly again. Ganguly was chosen to play the female protagonist since she was nice and gorgeous this time. Audiences recognized Rupa's contribution to the series.

She agreed to star in Prabhat Roy's Bengali film Prateek with Chiranjeet Chakraborty in 1988. Roy's second film, in 1989, Agnitrishna, starred Chiranjeet Chakraborty as Abhijit; Ganguly was cast as the female protagonist opposite Chakraborty. In the film, she performed the essential role of a doctor. And though the film gained mixed reviews, Roopa Ganguly appreciated her skill. She also agreed to act with Chakraborty in Biresh Chatterjee's Bengali film Tufan, directed by Biresh Chatterjee. The movie was a big financial success.

Roopa Ganguly made her film debut as a supporting actor in Anil Kapoor's Saaheb in 1986. According to reports, B.R. Chopra was fascinated by Ganguly's performance in the TV show Ganadevta.

When Juhi Chawla was rejected, Chopra chose to have Roopa Ganguly participate in a screen test for the character of Draupadi. She rose to prominence after acting in the iconic Mythological TV Series Mahabharat, based on the holy epic Mahabaratha. She played the main role of Draupadi, which established her as a household name in India. The show, which aired on DD National, made her a cultural figure on television and helped her engage in the movie industry.

She starred alongside Pankaj Kapoor and Supriya Pathak in the NDFC-funded movie Kamla Ki Maut, which focused on premarital relationship issues and love concepts in modern India. The film generally received positive reviews from critics. In 1992, Rupa's first film of the year was Virodhi. She played a supporting part with Dharmendra, Suniel Shetty, and others in a classic Bollywood film. She played the role of Vidya in Nishchaiy, starring Vinod Khanna and Salman Khan, who is the lead characters.

She then starred in the National Award-winning Bengali film Padma Nadir Majhi, released in 1993, and featured in a lead role. Following that, she co-starred with Anjan Dutt in another National Award-winning play, Yugant, which reflected the subject of a separated couple who found shared affection for each other. The film was a critical success, and she received several honors for her consistent performance.

Roopa Ganguly turned her focus to Bengali cinema in 2000 with noted filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh's Bariwali, which included Kirron Kher, Chiranjeet, and Roopa Ganguly star, and the film was a huge success.

To join the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, Ganguly left Artiste Forum in 2015 because she thought that a good politician should not maintain a prominent place in Artiste Forum.

Ganguly was defeated by Trinamool Congress competitor and cricketer Laxmi Ratan Shukla in the 2016 West Bengal Assembly elections from Howrah North.
