Rohit Sardana was an Indian journalist, anchor, and editor, very popular among people. Many big anchors exist in today’s television world, but the impact Rohit Sardana left on people will never be forgotten. He is an inspiration for many editors and columnists. 

He worked for two big media houses, i.e., Zee News and Aaj Tak. He hosted the famous show ‘Taal Thok Ke’ on Zee News, a debate program. In 2017, Rohit Sardana left Zee News and joined Aaj Tak news channel, where he hosted the prime-time show named ‘Dangal’.

Rohit Sardana lived with his father, mother, and two brothers and sister. His elder brother is a software engineer. He is married to Pramila Dixit, who is a news reporter by profession. The couple has beautiful daughters, Nandika, seven years old, and Kashi, three.

Rohit Sardana’s family lived in Karnal in Haryana. However, after his birth, their family moved to Kurukshetra. He was admitted to a primary school in Kurukshetra. Later he completed his post-graduation from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology in mass communication.

He had been very fond of debate programs, poems, and speech contests since childhood. His interest rose more during his college days when he took part in such debate programs. During his study days, he got a job on a local FM channel from 1 PM to 11 PM as a host. Even the local siti cable handed over their show to Rohit. He was on TV, and slowly the local people got to know about him, and he became a local star.

Soon after completing his internship, he got a job at ETV, where he got lots of project work and learned many new things. He learned all the broadcasting and editing techniques within a few days in Hyderabad.

When he joined Zee News, he had almost zero cricket knowledge. Though he knew nothing about cricket yet, he continued. He read a column about Ravi Shastri and learned all the questions about the interview, and asked the same to Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev was moved, and he requested the head of the news channel to give him a chance to host shows as he had excellent knowledge of cricket. Rohit Sardana was appointed by the news as the host for their show called ‘Action Play,’ and he became a famous anchor.

He traveled worldwide to cover news related to cricket. Almost for eight years, he hosted cricket news. By looking at his crystal clear knowledge and debate with his colleagues on various topics, the Zee News head thought that he could host debate shows. The Editor in Chief of Zee News, Sudhir Choudhury, tested the talent of this young man and requested him to host the show, ‘Taal Thok Ke’. Rohit Sardana started this debate show on 10th November 2013, which was a signature show of his life.

He even hosted the ‘Prime Time Show DNA’ during the absence of Sudhir Choudhury.

Rohit Sardana left Zee News and joined Aaj Tak, where he worked as an executive editor. He had already impressed many people through his debate show, Taal Thok Ke, and this is the reason why Aaj Tak made him the host of the debate show Dangal.

The show was a hit. He got a chance to work with famous personalities like Om Kashyap, Chitra Tripathi, Sweta Singh, Sayed Ansari, and Meenakshi Kandwal. He even hosted programs like ‘Dastak’ and ‘Khabardaar’, which premiered at 10 PM.

According to reports, Rohit Sardana was an unbiased anchor. He used to ask tough questions even to ruling party leaders in his debate shows.

Once Amit Shah was addressing a group comprised of media people and businessmen who were protesting for CAA. Rohit Sardana directly asked something which wasn’t in BJP’s favor. Amit Shah was astonished to hear such a question.

So the conclusion can be predicted as Zee News wouldn’t give that much freedom as compared to Aaj Tak.

Rohit Sardana was a very social person. He used to engage with his followers on Twitter. His Twitter account has got more than 4 million followers. Apart from his news show, he used to connect with people socially on Twitter. He would answer all the queries that people asked him on Twitter after any of his shows.

He did this activity to know how many people liked the program hosted by him. His impeccable journalism and debate skills would shout the mouth of opposition in his debate show. Rohit Sardana was given the annual journalism award i.e. Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi award in 2018.

Rohit Sardana was once offended by a movie named Sexy Durga. He tweeted why movies are being named with such pretext. Apart from it, he also stated that he has not yet seen any other religion’s god or goddess name used with such pretext.

After this, the people of Hyderabad carried out a protest against his blasphemous tweet. People from Shia, Sunni, and Christian communities protested in front of the commissioner of Hyderabad outside his office. They demanded the arrest of Rohit Sardana. Even FIR was registered against him.

On 17th November 2017, a group of violent mob attacked their residence in Bangalore. He started receiving threat calls, and a group of people again attacked their residence on 23rd November.

i.) When he was working with ETV, his salary wasn’t enough to survive in Delhi. His father used to send money for his expenses.

ii.) He worked as a Video Toaster Editor under a Japanese team for five months.

iii.) While covering the Gujarat Assembly Election news in 2002, he had to learn Gujarati.

iv.) On 24th April, Rohit Sardana updated on Twitter that he had tested COVID-19 positive. While he was in the hospital, he requested his followers to help COVID-19 victims. Even the night before his death, he posted a tweet asking people to help a COVID-19 victim.

v.) Rohit Sardana always wanted to become an actor and was even took admission to the National School of Drama.
