When she was 17 years old, feature and commercial filmmaker Kailash Surendranath hired Ekta Kapoor as an intern. She eventually became well-known as a producer for Balaji Telefilms after securing finance from her father. Balaji Telefilms is a production firm that she decided to start after getting funds from her father. Six of her serialized plays were rejected, costing her a total of 50 lakh (nearly 1.7 crores or 210,000$ 2020) on her initial endeavors. The Zee TV program Hum Paanch provided Ekta with her debut hit. In 2000, Ekta began prefixing all of her serial names with the letter 'K' on the recommendation of an astrologer. All prior TRP records were broken by his first television program, 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', which began with the letter ‘K’.
