P.V. Sindhu - Biography

Introduction

We used to watch and play many sports. But if we have ever played badminton, we must know about P. V. Sindhu, also known as Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, a badminton player for India. Sindhu makes place for her as one of India's top athletes, and she has won medals in various tournaments, including the BWF circuit, the Olympics, and gold at the 2019 World Championships. For the first time in her professional life, she attained a career-high international rating of no. 2 in April 2017. She is the second Indian female with two Olympic medals in a row, and She is also the only Indian woman to win a World Championship in badminton.

Personal Life

On July 5, 1995, P.V. Sindhu was born in Hyderabad. P. Vijaya and P. V. Ramana are her parents, who grew up and raised her in Hyderabad, India itself. Her parents had won national volleyball championships as well. In 1986, at the Seoul Asian Games, Ramana was a member of the Indian volleyball team that won a bronze medal, and in 2000 he received the Arjuna Award for his achievements. She also has an older sister, Divya, who played volleyball at the national level before pursuing a career in medicine. Anurag Kumar, a software engineer, is her sister's husband.

Sindhu has been an assistant sports manager at Bharat Petroleum's Hyderabad branch since July 2013. She received the silver medal at the Rio Olympics and became deputy sports manager. She was also chosen as the Bridgestone company's first brand ambassador in India. The Andhra Pradesh government appointed her as Deputy Collector (Group-I) in July 2017, and she began her work in August. She carried the Indian flag during the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.

Early Life

P.V.Sindhu comes from a family of volleyball players, and the rising badminton player was born with sporting qualities in her. Ramana, her father, and Vijaya, her mother, were both international athletes who represented India. Mir Mehboob Ali, who has also coached top shuttlers such as Saina Nehwal, Shruti Kurien, and Jwala Gutta, taught PV Sindhu badminton when she was eight years old.

She obtained her education at St. Ann's College for Women and Auxilium High School. She received her basic instruction from Ali, who was essential for the success of her remarkable career, but then entered the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy and began working with her mentor, All England Open Badminton Champion Pullela Gopichand.

Her intense love for the game inspired her to travel 56 kilometers every day to practice at the renowned Gopinath Badminton Academy, which has produced players like Saina Nehwal, Srikanth Kidambi Parupalli Kashyap, and Prannoy Kumar.

On the other hand, her parents determined to move near the Academy in Gachibowli and offer her greater convenience and more energy to focus on the game more effectively.

Badminton Career

P.V. Sindhu

PV Sindhu began her career at Gopichand Badminton Academy. She won numerous titles in the 10-years category. In Secunderabad, at the Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications, Sindhu started learning the basic technique of badminton, and Mehboob Ali taught her about it. Sindhu was interested in badminton and began playing when she was eight years old. She walked 56 kilometers each day to the badminton courts to start practicing.

P. V Sindhu began her international career at the age of fourteen. PV Sindhu's Badminton Career was not easy, and she faced various challenges, hardships, and resistance; later, she earned trophies and honors. In the under-13 age category,  Sindhu won the Sub-Junior Nationals, Krishna Khaitan All India Tournament, IOC All India Ranking, and All India Ranking in Pune. She received a gold medal in the under-14 age category at India's 51st National State Games. In 2009 her first significant victory came as she won bronze in Colombo's Sub-Junior Asian Badminton Championships.

Sindhu took the lead in both the Maldives and Indonesia International Challenges in 2011. She reached the finals of the Dutch Open but got defeated. But Sindhu went on to beat Carola Bott in the Swiss International Finals. In 2011, she received the India International Badminton Championship. Sindhu was also doing well in Tokyo, achieving the quarterfinals of Women's Singles Badminton in 2021.

P. V. Sindhu Is Well-Known Across The World

In September 2012, she was ranked in the top 20 in the BWF World Ranking for the first time. At Singles World Badminton Championships, Sindhu was the first Indian woman who wins the gold medal, and at that time, she was 17 years old. In 2015, she was the youngest member to win India's fourth-highest civilian prize, the Padma Shri, for her developing achievement in sports.

For P.V. Sindhu, her first qualification was so easy to win. She won all of the qualification rounds with the help of her coach, team members, and her determination. A Promise From Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister

YS Jaganmohan Reddy, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, agreed to provide badminton star PV Sindhu five acres of land in Visakhapatnam's port city to establish a badminton academy for females. Sindhu and her parents met with the chief minister at the Secretariat. The chief minister congratulated her on her previous WBF world championship gold medal and hoped for further success.

Following the event, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister M Srinivasa Rao told the media that the chief minister had given Sindhu's request for land to construct the badminton academy.

A Dream Project, Work To Be Started Soon

PV Sindhu, a world-class badminton player, and her family visited Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at his Secretariat chamber. The Chief Minister praised and appreciated the badminton player for her success in the Tokyo Olympics. He also asked Sindhu to get started on the project badminton academy in Visakhapatnam as soon as possible so that many young people might be nourished in the same way as she was.

On behalf of the Andhra Pradesh government, officials honored PV Sindhu with a cash reward of Rs 30 lakh. Sindhu told reporters that she visited with the Chief Minister and received his blessings before traveling for the Olympics. She promised that work on the Vizag badminton academy would begin shortly.
