Sonu Nigam: Biography, Age, Songs, Wife, Family, Net Worth

Sonu Nigam is a well-known playback singer and music director from India who began singing when he was very young. He is a playback singer who succeeded and tried out several styles, which he could execute effortlessly. Sonu Nigam is frequently referred to as "Modern Rafi" since many say his technique is quite reminiscent of the renowned vocalist Mohammad Rafi.

One of the best and most versatile singers of the present day is Sonu Nigam, who has a very pleasant and beautiful voice. From 2010 to 2011, Sonu Nigam sang every other song in a Bollywood film. Sonu Nigam has performed almost 2000 songs in 10 different languages to date.

Young Adulthood and Educational Background

On July 30, 1973, in Faridabad, Haryana, singer Sonu Nigam was born. Sonu's mother is named Shobha Nigam, and Agam Kumar Nigam is his father. On February 15, 2002, Sonu Nigam and Madhurima Nigam were married.

People frequently refer to him as the "contemporary Rafi" because Mohammad Rafi was his idol, and he frequently mimicked his singing mannerism on stage performances. Sonu Nigam attended Delhi University after completing his education at the J. D. Tytler School.

Early Career as a Singer

Sonu Nigam and his father, Agam Kumar Nigam, used to perform on stage when Sonu was only 4 years old. He gradually started to perform alongside his father at weddings and other events, where they sang various tunes.

Sonu Nigam learned everything he knew about music from his father at home. He taught him every nuance of music, which helped him mature. Sonu's love for music was greater than any of his other interests, and he later devoted himself entirely to it.

He decided to accompany his father to Mumbai when he was 18 years old to pursue a career in Bollywood music. With maestro Ghulam Mustafa Khan, he maintained his musical studies while hunting for career options. After evaluating his musical abilities and performances, he thought of becoming a playback singer in the Bollywood industry. Sonu Nigam is a superstitious person who even changed the spelling of his name from "Nigam" to "Niigaam" before deciding to return to the original.

Career in Singing

Sonu Nigam has produced music in many languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Nepali, and many more, including devotional, romantic, patriotic, and ghazal songs. Even his mainstream songs and albums of devotion have been released in other languages.

Nigam's not only perform in India, but also in other country of Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East. Sonu and "The Incredibles" worked together in 2007. The members of The Incredible were Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher, Kunal Ganjawala, and Asha Bhosle. Under the name Simply Sonu, he also planned solo performances in Germany and Canada. He accomplished this first among Indian singers.

Beginning of Career: 1990–1999

In 1990, a song from the film Janam gave Sonu Nigam his big start as a playback vocalist. The movie was never released because of some unforeseen circumstances. Even though he had a contract with T-Series, it was rejected due to S. P. Balasubramaniam. T-Series owner Gulshan Kumar offered him an opportunity for a song from the popular film Bewafa Sanam despite his contract being rejected due to his enthusiasm and talent. He achieved significant success in the Bollywood industry thanks to the song "Achha Sila Diya Tune," which was a smash and made people aware of and appreciated this young, gifted singer.

After releasing his debut record, "Rafi Ki Yaadein," in 1993, Sonu Nigam recorded songs for numerous films, including Khuddar, Hulchul, Shera, Jeet, Dulhe Raja, Veerta, and many others. His initial release was 'O Aasman Wale' Aaja Meri Jaan. He had performed numerous songs before this one. Nigam struggled in his early career as a playback singer since he wasn't given a chance. He performed radio advertising. Sonu made most of his money performing on stage and singing songs by Rafi. With the song Vaarayo Thozi, Sonu Nigam made his Tamil music debut. Sonu Nigam's album Deewana was released in 1999 by the T-Series record company.

Career High Point: 2000–2010

Sonu Nigam's career peaked between 2000 and 2010 when he produced several top hits for which he received numerous nominations and victories at award ceremonies. The two most well-known songs that Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik performed then were Panchi Nadiya Pawan Ke and Suraj Hua Maddham. Sonu won his first Filmfare Award for the Saathiya title track. Gulzar wrote the song's lyrics, and A. R. Rahman composed the music.

Sonu Nigam's 2003 song Kal Ho Naa Ho was the one that brought him the most success at this time. Javed Akhtar penned the song's lyrics, and it was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. For this song, he received two honors. First came the Filmfare Award, followed by the National Film Fare Award for a male playback vocalist.

Four songs by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal were performed for the film Parineeta.  Sonu Nigam was the most prominent playback vocalist in 3 Idiots. In 2007, Nigam re-released Rafi Ki Yaadein with the Kal Aaj Aur Kal as a tribute to Mohammad Rafi.

He released Classically Mild, Punjabi Please, and Rafi Resurrected in 2008, all of which were in the Punjabi language. After Michael Jackson passed, Sonu Nigam wrote a song in his honor. Drew Gilpin Faust was appointed the 28th President of Harvard University in 2007. During the inaugural program, Sonu Nigam performed bhajan with Harvard students.

2010 and Later: Now

Tees Maar Khan's theme song was sung in 54 different languages by Sonu Nigam in 2010. He also performed the popular Dabangg song Chori Kiya Re Jiya. Sonu performed the highest note on the song Aye Janani without utilizing a falsetto and with an open-throat effort. The title single from All Izz Well won Sonu Nigam the 2010 Global Indian Music Academy Awards. The BIG Star Entertainment Award for greatest playback singer of ten years also went to him.

Sonu Nigam worked with Britney Spears on "I Wanna Go" and DJ Avicii on the song "Indian Levels" in 2011. Sonu and Jermaine Jackson, Michael Jackson's brother, worked together to create the song as a homage to the late singer, because Sonu was battling for singers' royalties and against the businesses' illegal contracts, many of his songs between 2012 and 2015 were redubbed in other singers' voices by music labels. Because he thought common reason would ultimately win out, Sonu claimed that he wasn't afraid to go outside.

Additionally, in 2012, Sonu Nigam performed the song Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin from the film Agneepath, which was a tremendous hit and won numerous awards including BIG Star Entertainment Award, Fifth Mirchi Music Award, Zee Cine Awards, Times of India Film Awards, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Lions Gold Award, and numerous others. He was also nominated for best playback singer in the male category of the Filmfare Awards because of this song. This song is among Sonu Nigam's best to date, in his opinion.

Sonu composed the theme music for the films Jal, Sooper Se Ooper, and Singh Saab The Great, all in 2013. He frequently topped the US Billboard Uncharted charts as the top artist. Sonu sings a solo in Bhagwaan and a duet with Shreya Ghosal in Love is a Waste of Time. Numerous people showed their enormous love for Hai Kahaan Re Tu. The song Sapna Jahan from Brothers was also well-known.

Sonu Nigam and music director Khayyam recorded songs in 2015 for the Gulam Bandhu initiative. He also worked on John Lennon's composition Imagine alongside musicians from all over the world. Sonu Nigam released the song Crazy Dil in 2016, featuring him, his kid, and several other Bollywood stars, including Farah Khan, Sunil Grover, Rajkumar Hirani, Kailash Kher, and Natalie Di Luccio. Then he released First Date with Jonita Gandhi, another song.

In addition, Sonu worked on the Sab Rab De Bande song with the 6 Pack Band (a transgender band). Sonu and Amaal Malik collaborated on the song Tu Hi Na Jaane from the film Azhar for the first time. Sonu Nigam and Indian-American DJ Kshmr collaborated internationally on the song "Underwater." He won the 9th Mirchi Music Award for the independent pop song Aye Jahaan Aasmaan. Shreya Ghosal and Abhishek Ray collaborated on the song, which was written independently.

Sonu also sang a song for the Shah Rukh Khan-starring film Raees; however, it was regrettably cut from the final cut but was later made available on YouTube. Vishal Mishra's song Aye Zindagi was also performed by Sonu. There have already been five renditions of the song performed by Shaan, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Alka Yagnik, and Suresh Wadkar. Alongside Kainaat Arora, Sonu starred in the movie Totta. He worked with Meet Bros. on Main Badhiya Tu Bhi Badhiya, which helped Kulfi from 102 Not Out gain popularity.

Sonu Nigam also sang the remake of the Mohammad Rafi song Badan Pe Sitaare, which was originally sung by none other than Sonu's idol. Sonu complied with Anil Kapoor's plea to maintain originality because the film Fanney Khan contained references to Mohammad Rafi; as a result, Sonu consented. Sonu also said that at first, he hesitated because it would change the original song, but at Anil Kapoor's insistence, he went ahead and did it.

Sonu also performed songs with socially conscious themes, such as Tik Tik Plastic, which aimed to stop people from using plastic because it is bad for the environment. To rescue the Mumbai River, he then sang the Mumbai River Anthem.

Rafi Kishore aur Main was the name of Sonu Nigam's UK tour in 2021, which Grace Entertainment organized. In addition to Sonu Nigam, the performance featured a brilliant ensemble of musicians, some of whom played on the song's original composition. The audience was captivated to their seats for almost four hours as he sang his songs in tandem with those of great singers like Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar.

Even more recently, Sonu Nigam debuted his NFT collection, which includes some significant events in his life and some information regarding recordings. Controversy

The loudspeakers in mosques, temples, gurudwaras and other religious buildings were the subject of a few tweets from Sonu Nigam in the past. For those who don't wish to practice any religion, he claimed that the loudspeakers are intrusive and cause people to become disturbed.

He became embroiled in a dispute after offending some religious groups, who were angered. Later, he tweeted a few more times to stress that he is not anti-religious and still stands by his original stance. According to his statement, any religious structure, including a mosque, temple, or gurudwara, can have loudspeakers installed on it. To reduce noise pollution, he opposes utilizing loudspeakers outside of designated hours.

Things worsened when he shared a video of Azaan from his house and said that it kept him up at night and disturbed his sleep. Since Sonu Nigam's words upset Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi, he offered a bounty of Rs. 10 lakh to anyone who could do so. In order to receive the prize money, Sonu Nigam responded audaciously by shaving his head. The West Bengal United Minority Council's vice president is Al Quaderi.

Sonu Nigam canceled his Twitter account in 2017 after complaining that it did not allow free speech and that the polarised environment made it impossible for rational dialogue to occur there. Sonu Nigam shared a video in which he discussed how major firms monopolize Bollywood music and experience discrimination after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020. He urged record labels to treat up-and-coming artists fairly.

Sonu Nigam didn't mention anyone by name and merely offered his opinion on what was happening in the music business. The CEO of T-Series, Bhushan Kumar, is specifically mentioned and warned to leave in his second video. Sonu Nigam was accused of collaborating with Rocky and Mr. Rehan Siddiqui, two individuals on the blocklist who backed Pakistani terrorist organizations, in 2022. This information was made public when Sonu advised Rajendra Singh Pahl to speak with Rehan when he approached Sonu about performing at a performance.
