Personal History & Legacies
In 1984, a girl named Radhe was born to Jaggi Vasudev, also known as Sadguru and Vijaya Kumari. Their daughter Radhe wed Sandeep Narayan, a classical singer, and Bharatanatyam dancer, at Sadhguru's ashram in Coimbatore. On December 23, 1997, Kumari sadly died away. Vasudev said that Kumari had assured him nine months before she died that she would finally experience mahasamadhi in response to Kumari's father's suspicions that Vasudev had murdered her.
Former Incarnations
Since being enlightened, Sadhguru has revealed that he has memories of previous incarnations that have impacted this life and his purpose. He was born into a devoted Hindu family that engaged in snake enchanting and worshipped Shiva in his previous life, which occurred more than 365 years ago. When he fell in love with a Muslim girl, his family was, however, very displeased. After refusing to leave his love, he was sentenced to death via snake poisoning. This significant life event has profoundly impacted his fondness for and friendship with snakes. Snakes are highly developed creatures that need always to be respected, according to Sadhguru. He expresses his opposition to any form of caste or religious prejudice.
He also cites Sri Brahma, a fiery-tempered sadhu, and yogi who served as a Sadhguru. This yogi had attained self-realization, but due to social prejudice and a lack of social skills for communicating with skeptics, he could not share his spiritual depth with others. There is a chance for success where failure is experienced in this incarnation. In a past existence, he said, he had reached enlightenment with the help of his instructor Palani Swami. His guru assigned him the duty of constructing a Dhyanalinga, a storehouse of spiritual energy that would aid other seekers in return for aiding him in attaining enlightenment.
Projects in Aid of Humanity
Sadhguru has done numerous environmental projects, such as the extensive planting of trees along the poor rivers of India and in the agricultural areas along the Kaveri in Tamil Nadu.
"People and trees have an intimate relationship, both of us and they both inhale what is exhaled by the other. Nobody could survive without it or afford to let this everlasting friendship stop. Isha Insights Magazine, 2009 Spring Edition, Sadhguru (on Project Green Hands mass tree planting campaign).
Politics
One of the most well-known and prominent people in India, Sadhguru has spoken his political opinions more frequently than is customary for a yogi. He asserts that he is independent of all political ideologies and that it is crucial to combine politics and spirituality. However, he regularly ascribes to the ideologies of the Hindu nationalist BJP. He has urged adopting a tough attitude towards Kashmiri radicals.
