On May 6, 1991, Sanjana was born in Pune, Maharashtra. Dr. Sushma Ganesan, her mother, is a trainer and an advocate. Shital Ganesan, her sister who works as a dentist, is her younger sibling. Author and business specialist Ganesan Ramaswamy is her father.

She completed her education at Bishop's School in Pune. Then, she went on to pursue her B Tech degree. She won a gold medal at Symbiosis in 2008. She attended the institute and the social marketing agency CDK Global after completing her education. She held a position as a software developer between 2013 and 2014.

 Sanjana decided to try modeling and entered the "2012 Femina Style Diva" fashion show, where she was selected as a finalist. She didn't pursue modeling because she was a college student. Sanjana took part in the 2013 "Femina Officially Gorgeous" contest and took first place. Sanjana was chosen as a participant in the MTV Splitsvilla Season 7 competition in 2014. Sanjana shared a romantic connection on the program with Ashwini Koul, with whom she was partnered. Sanjana sustained an injury while performing, forcing her to leave the concert. Soon after Sanjana left the program, Ashwini, too, walked away.

 Sanjana said in an interview, "Although I felt at ease in front of the camera, there were many things I had to master to become a decent sports anchor."

 During the Indian Premier League (IPL), she also presented a program called "Match-Point." Eventually, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) contracted her to present a special show for KKR regularly.
