FULL FORM OF NTRO

INTRODUCTION:

The National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of India heads the National Technical Research Organization (NTRO), a technical intelligence organization. It began operations in 2004. This body and the Research and Analysis Wing (Radwa) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) have similar codes of conduct. The agency functions as a top feeder agency that provides technical intelligence on internal and international security to other agencies, although it has little influence on how other intelligence agencies, including the Indian armed forces, run their technical wings. As a cutting-edge technological branch of intelligence collection, the NTFO was advocated for creation by the Group of Ministers (GOM), which was led at the time by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani. Security reasons prevented the recommendation and similar other issues from being made public when the GOM report was released. The company conducts high-tech surveillance operations, such as satellite monitoring, terrestrial monitoring, and internet.

180 hectares of land near Bhopal in Board village were granted by the Madhya Pradesh government in September 2013 for the construction of the NTRO.

A fresh batch of confidential papers recently leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden to a website shows that NTRO has been one of the most aggressive participants of the US NSA-led 10-member counter-terrorism platform known as SIGINT Seniors Pacific (SSPAC) over the last 10 years.

Organisation:

The agency has several areas of expertise, including as remote sensing, SIGINT, data collection and processing, cyber security, geographic data collection, cryptology, strategic hardware and software development, and strategic monitoring. The National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre, a department of the National Technical Research Organisation, was established to monitor, intercept, and evaluate threats to critical infrastructure and other important installations using information gathered by sensors and platforms like satellites, underwater buoys, drones, VSAT-terminal locators, and Fiber-optic cable nodal tap points.[Needs citation. As the first of its sort in Asia, it also comprises the National Institute of Cryptology Research and Development (NICRD).The Technology Experiment Satellite (TES), Cartosat-2A, EMISAT, and Cartosat-2B, in addition to the two radar imaging satellites RISAT-1 and RISAT-2, are used by NTRO for operations. The acquisition of RISAT-2.

Based on information supplied by NTRO, the Indian Coast Guard stopped a Pakistani fishing boat in December 2014 in the Arabian Sea close to the maritime border between the two countries, some 365 kilometres from Porbandar. Following many hours of pursuit and standoff, the coast guard opened fire on the boat, killing all 4 people on board. The occupants, according to Coast Guard officials, were terrorists who planned to carry out an attack similar to the one on September 11, 2001.NTRO was essential in the 2016 Line of Control attack by giving operational advisers and planners satellite intelligence. The NTRO satellites Cartosat-2C, Cartosat-1, and Resourcesat-2 were utilised to give images of terrorist training facilities in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. During the airstrike on Balaka in 2019, NTRO also had a significant impact. 300 targets were validated by NTRO monitoring using active.
