PCS Full Form: Provincial Civil Service

PCS is an administrative State Government civil services operation. It falls under Category A of the Public Sector Branch and belongs to every state government. It helps to maintain the state that runs Indian Administrative Facilities. The PCS officer helps control the state's rules, regulations, law, and income under the city, state, district, etc. State PCS officers' appointing process is through State Civil Services Exams, carried out by the State Administration Tribunal (SAT). The PCS examination method is similar to the procedures carried out to select the IAS officers and sometimes overlaps with the UPSC exams. It involves three phases: prelims, mains, and interviews. One has to pass all the steps of the test to be a PCS officer. After obtaining an assured % of points in the prelims, which is 33%, a minimum cut offset by the State Public Service Commission, a candidate can go to the next round of the mains exam. 

General State PCS Exams information

The prelims have two papers, paper one and paper two, which are of general studies. It is compulsory to participate and clear both the papers to pass the preliminary exam. The second phase of the mains consists of eight papers. It has two parts; one is for subjects that are mandatory while the other is optional. The mandatory subjects are Hindi and Essay writing, with each carrying 150 marks. There are four available subjects, of 200 marks each. And lastly, there is a 200-mark interview round in which the interviewer tests the candidate's personality, attitude, general knowledge, characteristics, etc.

Provincial Civil Service Officer is an internal administrative public sector officer of the State Government. The PCS officers are selected and established with the help of each state PCS test. UPPSC is a PCS exam conducted by Uttar Pradesh; the full form is Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission State Civil Services. State civil services control this examination. The PCS director is accountable for managing government, rule, and regulation of the state laws. At the district, administrative and state levels, the PCS officer serves in different roles.

How to become a PCS officer?

The requirement for a candidate to become a PCS officer is to take the respective state PCS examination; for example, UPPSC provides a notice each year for the candidates to apply for the PCS examination. UPPSC then completes an audit for the Upper Subordinate Facilities in separate centers. The first preliminary examination is carried out as an initial exam, after which a written test estimates the assessment, and then there is an interview process. The key (written) exam or the main exams are for only those who have cleared out the preliminary assessments.

Let's discuss the eligibility concerning the UPPSC state PCS examination; in its formal announcement done on April 21, the UPPSC provided the eligibility conditions for PCS 2020. The eligibility defines the minimum qualification standards required by the candidate to apply for the exams.

  • PCS UPPSC Age Limitation

The age limit of the PCS 2020 is referred to in the official notice of July 01, 2020. The min age is 21 years old to qualify for PCS 2020, and the highest age requirement is 40 years old. Applicants who meet the age limit requirements can register for UPPSC selection in 2020.

The age-relaxation for the different categories and castes is applicable only if there are U.P. citizens.  The advantage of reservation/age relaxation for S.C., S.T., OBC, etc., is not granted if they are not citizens of the state. For SC, S.T., OBC, Sports Person, and state Govt. Employee, Ex. Servicemen all have an age relaxation of 5 years, and physical Handicapped has a 15 years age relaxation.

  • Educational requirements for PCS 2020

The required prerequisite to qualify for the 2020 Joint State Civil Service exam for the general criterion for UPPSC is the candidate should have a Bachelor's Degree or an associate's degree from a recognized university or college to qualify. There is also no description of the proportion of UPPSC educational qualifications.

On April 20, 2020, the PCS announced the online application on their Main website. Before filling out the PCS 2020 application, candidates must confirm their eligibility.

  • Steps on how to apply for online PCS application

The steps to fill the online application is specified below:

  • Fill out the UPPSC registration form with the necessary personal and education details and press on "Print Registration Slip." For reference purposes, hold the slip.
    • By selecting one of the three methods eligible, proceed to send the UPPSC application payment charge.
    • Lastly, press on the 'Continue with final submit form' button.
    • As per the directions, submit the scanned image and signatures.

After filling out the registration form, candidates need to pay PCS Application Fees 2020 electronically. The fee ranges from Rs. 25 to Rs. 125 based on your category.

2020 UPPSC PCS Admit Card

On the official site, the UPPSC Application Form 2020 is now accessible. Applicants who have recently completed the PCS 2020 admission form will download the UPPSC 2020 admission card from the official website. The applicant must verify the UPPSC admission card's date and ensure that the admission card information is correct. After the release of the admission card, the UPPSC admission card download connection will be online.

Becoming a PCS officer needs an incredible amount of hard and smart work. Each state's PCS exam differs slightly, but it is almost identical to the UPSC exam. You can first research the full PCS exam details of the state you want to apply to. You should establish a proper method and schedule your planning. Follow an exact time table set and attempt to reach small goals for your everyday studies. PCS also needs a lot of basic knowledge, so you can keep up to date on current events and read the paper for at least an hour regularly.

You can also use relevant books for the exam to read, rewrite, and practice from such books specifically. Don't purchase too many books, though, as you may be stressed a lot. Knowing about the economics, geography, history, and archives of the state you plan to attend the PCS exam is essential. It will help you with your exam preparation for the general paper. Keep faithful in your training and study with commitment. You can also take short breaks between your lessons, or learning too much will make you dull, and you won't be able to concentrate on your studies.
