# Computing Power

Computing power comes at how fast a machine can perform a task. When a command is given to any computer, it is broken down into mathematical series of problems. A fast computer will handle or process more number of mathematical problems than a slower one and thus they can also handle the complex problems too.

Inside a CPU of computer, there is an electric clock that creates a series of electrical pulses at regular intervals which allows the computer to sync all the components and determine the speed of the processor. The speed with which the electrical pulses are generated per second is called the clock speed.

The clock speed is measured in gigahertz. It is possible to over speed the processor than its normal capability which is known as over clocking. Apart from clock speed, the speed of the processor can also be measured in one more way know as flops which means floating-point operations per second. The processors can handle billions of flops per second.

The speed or computing of the processor can be increased by dividing the processor into multiple different cores. In computing, there are some tasks that are still not easy for the super computers too.

## Importance of computing power

Computers are becoming more and more important in our day to day lives because they have become a part of our routine life. Some of the power computers we can see around us are iPhones and macbooks.

Computers are needed for various tasks that could be professional or casual like sending emails, browsing over the web, programming, development etc. Generally the definition of a super computer is misunderstood by the peoples, that these are the machine with size equal or more than a house. This is not true, super computers are meant by their ability of high computing power than the normal machines.

Today, computers are becoming small and small. The small computers that we see around us can contain a lot of data, has a high computing speed, and many more features. These computers are much smaller than the giant super computers. They can be considered as miniature versions of the traditional super computers.

## Quantum Computing

Yes it is completely true than the processing or computing power of the machines is increasing rapidly but that amount of processing power is still not able to fulfil our needs.

The reason for this is not the computational power but the amount of data is generated regularly and need to be processed by the computers where the computing power fails.

The next step on the way of more computing power is quantum computing. The quantum computing means the computers will use the power of atoms to perform tasks. Quantum computer are capable of performing such tasks that would task significantly a higher time than the normal silicon based computers.

Even this computing if capable of taking the computing to the next level, still an actual quantum computer is many years away from us. Right now, it can be said that quantum computers are the next era in the computing.
