What is a Username?
As we know that technology is increasing day by day, so we must have to aware about this. In this modern world, everyone is using computer and the internet. So, we must have security concerns for using digital platform. Username and password credentials are the most important for every person who use internet for digital transaction.
Suppose, you are working on the internet and want to log in to any website so, security is essential in this modern digital age. Security provides each identity to access the information. Suppose there is no security to access the website, then we cannot identify who is using this website. In case of security, we have to use a user id and password. Each user id corresponds to details about individual persons, like username, first name, last name, father name, and mother name, etc. Each username corresponds to its password because it provides authentication and security for any website. Without a password, the username is not valid.
Definition of username
A Username is nothing, but it is a special user- id given to any person on a computer network. It can be a phrase, word, or combination of numbers. It is also called account name, user ID, or login ID. A computer system may have many accounts, and each will have a different username.
The simple meaning of a username is that the username is an identity created by the user of any account to differentiate him from others.
Identify a unique individual
A username is unique for a user, means that two or more people using an online account service cannot have the same username.
Let us take a simple example, Gmail's accounts have a different user id for every individual. Creating an account requires entering a first name, last name, etc. Because people's names are not unique, They can have the same names.
Another example of a unique username is used in the banking system also. If two or more people sign up for a bank account, everyone has their unique account number. The account number cannot be the same for any circumstances.
Authentication is the basic need for any individual account, and this is completely dependent upon the correct input of usernames and passwords. If you have logged into your account in an email account, you may see your username on the display screen. A password is already secret form it. Many website users can create a secure account with the help of keeping their passwords private.
What happens to Usernames?
When you use a username to access any service from websites, your web browser sometimes asks you do you want to save your username for future use so that your information may be secure for any other users. If you save usernames on computers, so anyone can access your credential, and the computer will be able to use your username. This same also happens in the case of passwords. Almost all websites open a popup window and ask, do you want to save your username and passwords? So there are two options, either “YESS” or “NO".
If you select yes, there is no need to log in again and again. So this is good for your personal computer, but in the case of any public computer, this is not good, because he sees all your private information. But if you select NO, it is good for both private and public computers. For better security, always select NO options so that it can provide more security for other users. But we have to log in and give credentials again and again.
Difference between Username and Email address
The username and Email address may or may not be the same. It depends upon the situation in which environment you are working on.
Email is a service that allows us to send messages in electronic mode over the internet. Each user of email is assigned with a unique name for their email account. A user name is a unique identifier such as letters of the alphabet and numbers identifying a specific user.
In the case of email, username and domain names are separated by the "@” symbol. Each email address corresponds to this symbol, like [email protected] But in the case of username, it is simple. It can be in any form, as a combination of characters, letters, etc.
Email addresses are not case sensitive, but the username is case sensitive. If there is a valid signup email, it can enter either upper case or lowercase letter formats. But usernames should be the same as whatever you have created.
Why should we not use the same username?
One user name should not use with another id because of security concern. If we use the same username for a number of people, then the hackers can hack the personal id, bank account no, credit card no, auto-club membership, social security no, etc. But there is a rare chance to hack them if we use a specific user name and a strong password along with different type of login verifications. Some websites do not allow the same user id for the same email. This is the reason behind allowing one username for one person.
