What does Alt+D do?

Computer keyboard shortcut keys play an important role in the working of any computer user. We can do anything from the mouse and keyboard, but shortcut keys provide data in a time-efficient manner. We can get all options just by pressing some shortcut keys. These keys are easily available on the keyboard. “Alt+D” is the most important shortcut key used by users to easily predict all the possible types of file menu operations. We can say that simply by pressing these shortcut keys, we get the desired result.

It saves our valuable time, and we can do all the operations in a very fast manner. It works on the principle of the multitasking operation.   

The Alt +D keyboard shortcut's main function is to select the URL in the address bar in the internet browser.

How to use the Alt + D keyboard shortcut key?

First of all, press and hold the Alt key on the keyboard; after that, at the same time, press the “D” key from the keyboard.

Alt + D in the internet browser

Internet browser is the very basic need of every person. By using the internet, we can know all the information with just a single click. Generally, internet requires search browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, etc. The (Alt +D) key is used to select the URL (Universe Resource Locator) in the address bar in every browser.

What is the address bar on the internet?

The address bar on the internet (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox) is the well-known web browser’s graphical user interface that displays the name or the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) on the web page. It is important for every browser to search anything from the internet. The address bar is generally the IP address used directly in the address field. In this field, the user enters the names of the websites that they want to search for the result and does the same operation. IP addresses work on providing the DNS (Domain Name Service). This is used for direct communication from the server. Another name of the address bar is “Omni box” in the Google Chrome web browser. So address bar is essential for searching the particular result.

Alt + D in the Google Sheets

This shortcut key is also used in the Google sheet. If we press the Alt + D key, it opens the file menu related to the data. There are so many menu options available in the Google sheet. There are some differences in the Google sheet from the Ctrl + D key. Ctrl + D in the Google sheet fills all highlighted cells in the column with the contents of the first highlighted cell, but Alt + D  opens the file with many data options.

How does it differ from Ctrl + D shortcut key?

"Ctrl+D" is also an important shortcut key. Its functions vary from program to program. In the case of the internet browser, we can say that it is used to add the current site to the bookmark or a favorite. But in the case of other programs like Microsoft PowerPoint, it uses to duplicate objects. Following is the list of main differences:

  1. Ctrl+D differ from Alt+D in the internet browser:  Ctrl+D mainly work for the address and create a new bookmark or favorite for the current page in the internet browser. But in the case of Alt+D, the main function is to select the URL (Universe Resource Locator) in the address bar of the internet browser.
  2. Ctrl+D in Microsoft Excel and Google sheet:  In Microsoft excels and Google sheets, if we press the Ctrl+D, it fills and overwrites a cell in a column. If we want to fill the entire column with the contents of the upper cell below, press the Ctrl+D key. On the second side, the Alt+D key has mainly used the open the file with many menu data options.
